Naked Cruising - sounds a bit dodgy doesn't it? Paints a picture of dirty old men lurking aamongst the bushes in parks and commons. In fact, naked cruising is a holiday on a cruise ship where the holidaymakers are legally nude. I bring this up, as according to to a travel trends report by ABTA (the travel association), those of us who are feeling adventurous and looking to banish pesky tan lines, will be on a 'naked cruise' this year.

Nervous about baring flesh
I don't know about you, but the idea of being fully naked on a cruise ship, sends shivers up my spine. I break out in cold sweats at the thought of donning a bikini to hit the beach, so the idea of parading with my 'bits' on display for follow cruisers to see - cringing! Whilst I imagine being naked must feel free and perhaps liberating, I think I'll keep the whole 'walking around naked thing' confined to the safety of my living room!Holidays with that extra 'X Factor'
The ABTA 2010 travel trends report also predicts that this year we will be looking for that 'added wow factor' in our holiday choices; that once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with us forever. ABTA believes that South Africa will see a rise in tourism, this summer, when hundreds of thousands of footie fans will descend on cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban to support their national teams.

Take a road trip
The report has also highlighted interest in another popular holiday choice this year - the road trip such as Jamie's American Road Trip. Apparently holidaymakers are keen to follow in the footsteps of Jamie Oliver. Jamie travelled to US states such as Wyoming, Louisiana, New York and Georgia for his recent Channel 4 TV show. This definitely appeals to me, however, I loved the idea of doing an American Road Trip long before Mr Oliver's TV show, thank you very much!

I have a soft spot for America. New York is my favourite city in the world (sorry Toronto!), and nothing beats Miami for hot tropical, latin, party action. That said, the idea of a trip on the open roads of America attracts me most; the opportunity to visit and explore the 'less obvious' US states and cities, even the thought of sleeping at motels and eating at highway diners sounds thrilling to me, like something out of a Hollywood movie.
An old work colleague of mine is off to Memphis, Mississippi, Louisiana & Texas in March. To say I'm jealous would be a slight understatement. If it wasn't for the fear of the 'dreaded holiday partner dilemma', I think I would have invited myself along for the ride. Picture: Take a road trip and stay in a motel 6. Source: motel 6.com
